1973 Château d'Yquem - Sauternes (91 pts) @yquem _official ℹ️ This wine is a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc from the Sauternes appellation in Bordeaux, France. 1973 is considered a mediocre vintage with a low production level. 👁 Medium tawny color with a pale rim. 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of botrytis, new plastic toy, brown sugar, vanilla, cardamom, cinnamon, high-end honey, dried white plum, dried apricot, and enoki mushrooms. 👄 The wine is sweet, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol (~13.5%), and medium body. A medium length finish of dried orchard fruit, oak spices, and mushrooms. 🔔 Although 1973 wasn't an exceptional vintage for Château d'Yquem, this is still an intriguing wine hanging onto the late stages of life. This wine doesn't show the same aromatic intensity or depth on the nose, while the palate isn't as sweet and lacks the concentration of better examples from superior vintages.
