When it comes to building a connection with a wine nothing
7/23/2021, 7:58:51 AM When it comes to building a connection with a wine nothing beats hearing directly from the producer or seeing the very vineyards themselves. It’s the story of a wine that talks to me and that’s not necessarily something you get if you buy using points alone. To that end, thanks again @luisa _rocca for taking the time to show / talk me through your families winery last night (see IGTV). Despite being 16,653kms away I now feel a lot closer to your wines! Bruno Rocca Fralu 2019, young vine Nebbiolo, incredibly approachable, packed with red berry fruit, red liquorice, rose petal, some spice, crisp acidity, very slightly crunchy, lovely texture backed by gorgeously grippy tannin. Is it baby Barbaresco? No, not in Luisa’s eyes. If the roots aren’t deep enough to fully express the site it’s not Barbaresco. As Bruno says, you could give a kid with a drivers licence a Ferrari, but he/she wouldn’t know how to get the best out of it. I guess that talks to quality of Bruno Rocca.
