The southern coast of Crimea is the best wine-producing region in Ukraine, well technically Russia as of 2014. The Massandra Collection is famous for being previously owned by Czar Nicholas II and later Joseph Stalin. A tiny portion of the collection was sold at auction by Sotheby's in London in the early 1990s. 🍷 My 2nd time a wine from Massandra Collection, they are always unique, and the extraordinary back story always helps. The wine is sweet (~120 g/l) and the alcohol was fairly moderate for a fortified wine (~15%). The nose was extremely floral and charming literally jumping out of the glass. The palate had great concentration, moderate acidity, and quite sweet. The finish lasted for minutes. It was fun debating the merits of this wine with the other tasters.
