On 28 June 1880 Victorian Police captured bushranger Ned Kelly after a siege at the Glenrowan Inn, headline stuff, but! 1880 also happened to be the year, or there abouts, that PF Zimmerman planted the Zerk Vineyard, Lyndoch, with Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. 141 years later it’s believed that the Cabernet Sauvignon is the oldest of its kind on the planet, the Shiraz and Grenache not far behind. History and wine reviews, not bad hey 😉🤣 The wine. Very, very pretty. Not your typical Barossa Shiraz, far prettier. Plums and black berries with a cherry twang and rose petal sweetness, finely spiced too. The palate, superbly balanced, is pure, so pure. Dark fruits again, plums and black cherry, raspberry notes introduce freshness as dusty, dry earth, tannin and woody spice sweep from back to front. It’s a fine example of a fine Barossa Shiraz that respects the quality of fruit and where it’s from. A sip of history if you will 🍷👏🏼🙏🏼
