1997 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht - Riesling Grand Cru Brand ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Riesling from the Alsace Grand Cru Brand vineyard in Turckheim, Alsace, France. The vineyard soil type is Granite with a Southern exposure and at an altitude of 380 m. 1997 was a very warm year in Alsace with record ripeness levels. Brand is an early ripening site with a lot of sunlight that tends to be one of the warmer vineyards of Alsace. 👁 Medium amber color 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried apricot, peach skin, persimmon, candied ginger, peanut shells, tree bark, and orange marmalade. 👄 The wine is off-dry, high acidity, high alcohol (14.4%), and medium+ body. On the palate you feel the glycerol and alcohol resulting a weighty mouthfeel and slight burn. The finish is medium length of dried orchard fruit and orange marmalade, but ends on a bitter almond note. 🔔 As a fan of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, I was a bit disappointed by this bottle of wine. Although It is an interesting wine, but sadly it is out of balance. The two culprits are likely the hot 1997 vintage conditions and the bottle age. The biggest detractors from this wine are the high alcohol level with a hefty 🔥 burn, followed by the abrupt bitter finish. It is always interesting to check in on some older vintages from a region that you enjoy. #vin #lovewine #🍷 #wineterroir #wine #alsace #alsacewine #drinkalsace #zindhumbrecht #riesling
