This is, without a doubt, the most challenging wine I’ve tasted to date. Challenging? How so? Well... firstly, it’s a wine made for the purest, a wine lover who’s looking for a brutal and honest expression of Pinot Noir, and just Pinot Noir, no oak, no inputs, no intervention, and no modern technology, totally natural, untampered with. On paper it sounds great, although I do like a little oak, but I fully appreciate the winemaking philosophy. That however is the good. Where I struggle is in the taste. Sadly it’s just not there for me, for others perhaps it is. The nose is funky and semi fermented with a reductive quality offset by pickled dark cherry and wild strawberry, sweet and sour, it’s really quite impressive, unusual, but impressive. The palate is straight up bizarre, raw chestnut, green hazelnuts, and a scattering of dark cherry and prune in the background that’s over powered by a bitter nut texture and drying tannin. Interesting you could say. All in all it’s a wine that demands an understanding of what it is, why it is what it is, and perhaps most importantly, what it’s not trying to be. It’s out there, too out there for me, but for some, albeit a small some I suspect, it’ll be just what they want 👏🏽🍷🙏🏼
