Husband and wife team Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron revitalized 14 hectares of abandoned land in Gradoli facing Lake Bolsena on the border between Lazio and Tuscany. Vines [many ungrafted] have volcanic soils and are surrounded by olive groves, chestnut and oak trees. Farming is low intervention, using biodynamic and organic principles [certified]. Grapes are from a “blend of three parcels of various ages, elevations and expositions, harvested individually. The grapes are destemmed and spend ten days on skins, followed by a year in old chestnut casks.” Hazy red-violet in colour, with aromas of red currant, black cherry, forest floor, candied violet, peppery spice, black olive and cherry pit. Morello cherry, wild strawberry, black cherry, red currant, saline minerals and white pepper are flanked by tangy acidity and black tea tannins. Dusty iron-earth minerality and black olive underscore the fruity finish. Snappy, sprightly, silky.
