Travis Earth 909 2015, the best Shiraz I’ve tasted this
10/28/2021, 10:45:37 AM Travis Earth 909 2015, the best Shiraz I’ve tasted this year? Yes, probably. Hoffmann vineyard fruit in the hands of Travis Earth, a bulletproof combination some might say. The wine itself is a masterful expression of Barossa Shiraz, made from Hoffmann vineyard fruit as with many of the best in the Barossa. Midnight black in the glass with an inky rim. The nose, loaded with black fruit, plums, blackberries, boysenberry, powerfully expressive, liquorice and spice, oak yes, there too. Simply gorgeous. The palate, joyous. Unstoppable waves of dark fruit, layers of richness, decadent almost, coffee and earth, spicy, baffling in a way, tannins gripping, anchoring the flavour. Measure the finish in hours, not minutes. Tasted over 6 days, yup 6, and the evolution of this wine was remarkable, no one day better than the other, all exceptional. If I could do it again, I’d stretch it further, no doubt it still had mileage in the tank. Epic, epic, epic.
