⭐️87+/100⭐️ Calalta Mentelibera, 2017 📍Mussolente, Veneto, Italy🇮🇹 🍇 41% Bronner / 26% Incrocio Manzoni / 33% Riesling ⚡️12% Tasted: July 2020 Calalta is a small winery located on the hills at the foot of Monte Grappa at an altitude of 150-200 metres. The winery is sited in a 16 ha property where woods, olive trees, fruit trees and a pond promote a wide biodiversity with an advantageous microclimate.
Since 2017 the winery is lead by Nicola Brunetti who personally takes care of the whole production process from the field to the cellar, with focus on respecting the ecosystem and preserving the authentic characteristics of Calalta’s terroir. The vines for Mentelibera are manually harvested, and the vinification is done with soft pressing of selected bunches, fermentation in steel on its indigenous yeasts and then aged in steel until the spring following the harvest.
From vine to bottle, they totally avoid using pesticides, chemical fertilizers or herbicides. The wine appears with a cool, cloudy look - bright and lychee juice-like. The aroma is fresh and summery: Lemonade, green apple, lime peel, canned pineapple and mild honey. A perfumed scent of white flowers, hops and menthol is followed by a mineral flinty touch. A yeasty note is bringing even more depth to the nose.
The palate is super delicate, soft and creamy with a fine acidity. Flavors of pineapple, lime peel, green apple skin and green salad are complimented by minerals and white bread.
