Interview with Charlie Holland, the Winemaker at Gusbourne in Kent, England. Charlie gave an excellent high-level overview of English Sparkling Wine at the moment. He talked about the Terroir of Kent and Western Sussex. He explained the key differentiators and similarities with other sparkling wine regions. Gusbourne is taking a grower approach with 💯 estate fruit. We dove into the winemaking of each wine: oak vs. stainless steel, malolactic fermentation, and dosage. The wines are hand-harvested and vinified by block, then blended through blind trials. He covered the Winemaking of the Brut Rosé and how that changes based on vintage. Lastly, he talked about learning about their vineyards with the intent to make more singular wines as the best parcels present their unique characteristics over time. I would like to thank Charlie Holland for his time, Gusbourne @gusbourne _wine , and Broadbent Selections @broadbentselections for their support to make this interview happen.
