Xanadu Reserve 18, my winner from the @wineworthwritingabout Aussie Chard-off earlier this week. Why was this my winner? It’s complex, harmonious and confident, nothing out of place, no edges, just precision and balance. I tasted this over 3 days, as with the Dr Edge South, and further complexities were revealed daily. The nose is elegant and powerful, citrus, nashi pear, white grapefruit, and nectarines, ginger snaps, ground almonds, and frangipani blossoms. The purity of fruit concentration on the palate is awesome. Grapefruit, lemon zest, nectarines, and white peach with a gorgeous nougat and spiced cream finish that goes on and on. Perhaps the best Aussie Chardonnay I’ve tried to date.
