2017 DuMOL - Estate Chardonnay (93 pts) @dumolwinery · ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Chardonnay from the DuMOL Estate Vineyard in the Sonoma Coast. The vineyard was planted to Mount Eden and Hyde-Wente clones in 2004. This is the most densely planted vineyard in northern California. The wine is hand-harvested, whole cluster pressed, and only indigenous yeast fermentation. The wines go through a long press cycle to extract maximum phenolics. The is aged for 12 months in larger French oak barrels with 33% new oak. The wine is then settled in tank for 6 months before bottling· 👁 Medium+ lemon color, slightly cloudy· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe Meyer lemon, yellow apple, white peach, lemongrass, sage, oak, flint, custard, and salted almond· 👄 The wine is dry, high zippy acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.1%), and medium+ body. A creamy texture on the palate. A medium+ length finish of yellow apple, salted almond, and lemongrass· 🔔 This wine uniquely represents Sonoma Coast Chardonnay with its laser-like acidity, but yet weighty palate. The two forces are extremely complementary with the acidity preventing the wine from being heavy, but letting the creamy texture shine through. Smart oak choices compliment the wine.
