6/30/2021, 8:46:23 AM 2011 Road 31 Wine Co. - Pinot Noir (87 pts)· ℹ️ The wine was tasted single blind in a flight of Pinot Noirs. This wine is 💯 Pinot Noir from 3 different vineyards in Napa Valley, California. This is a small production of only 680 cases. 2011 was a rough year with a lot of fruit being lost to grey rot (aka the more negative term for botrytis.) The wine was aged for 11 months in 60% French oak and 40% Hungarian oak barrels with 33% being new oak· 👁 Hazy, medium ruby color with a pale garnet rim· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of baked strawberry , baked red cherry, dried cranberry, stemmy, earthy, oak, char, toast, and sulphur reduction· 👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, medium ripe tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. A medium length finish of stewed red fruit and oak spice· 🔔 The reduction on the nose of this wine was interesting, especially since it wasn’t over the top and blew off with some air. The fruit was ripe to cooked, but not in a bad way. This could also be my impression of the tertiary nature of the fruit due to the age of the wine. The alcohol was a tad high for the concentration of the fruit at 13.9% abv. Overall, a a decent effort in terms of Pinot Noir from Napa Valley· 😎 In Blind, We Trust
