Chiara Penati and her husband Michele Conoscenti have 7 hectares of vineyards that range from 15 to 100 years in age and are located on steep slopes in the hills of Tortona, Piemonte. Farming organically and biodynamically, they passionately protect and maintain the old vines and biodiversity. Grapes are from 5 vineyard parcels totaling 2.1 hectares, planted between 1955 and 1976 with silty calcareous and clay soils. Harvested and vinified separately in concrete, completely destemmed, with macerations lasting around 3 weeks. Aged for 8 months in concrete tanks followed by 3 months in the bottle. Inky red violet in colour, with rich aromatics of blueberry, red currant, blackberry, bramble, grilled herbs, peppery spice and a trace of cocoa powder. Tasting very similar to the aromas, with cherry, pomegranate, plum, blackberry, blueberry, cranberry, black pepper framed by tangy acidity and silky tannins. Dark fruit and trace of bitterness linger on the snappy finish.
