2011 Arnot-Roberts - Fellom Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (92 pts) @polanerselections @duncanarnot ยท ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ What is your favorite California Cabernetโ“ยท โ„น๏ธ The wine was tasted blind in a flight of 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is ๐Ÿ’ฏ Cabernet Sauvignon from the Fellom Ranch vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA of California. The 2011 vintage had one of the coolest summers in Northern California covered in persistent fog. Fellom Ranch is planted at 2200 ft which is above the fog. Planted in 1980-1983 the old, cane-pruned vines struggle in the harsh environment and low-nutrient soils, generating thick skins, and naturally low yields. Typically 30% whole cluster with only native yeast fermentations. Aged 22 months in French oak barrels with 33% newยท ๐Ÿ‘ Deep ruby color with a pale rimยท ๐Ÿ‘ƒ Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of evergreen, green olive, matcha powder (first time), rosemary, ripe black currant, black cherry, oak, cedar, floral, violets, and black teaยท ๐Ÿ‘„ The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, high grippy tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. A medium+ length finish of black currant and evergreenยท ๐Ÿ”” I consider myself an equal opportunity taster and in the past I have not loved Arnot-Roberts Syrahs that I have tasted, but this Cabernet Sauvignon is wonderful. The green notes on this wine are alluring and complex. The oak is barely noticeable on this wine. Extremely well put together, it has solid ripe black fruit, but the magic is in the evolving nose and balanced acidity. This wine improved significantly with air, my recommendation is to decant this wine for at least 90 minutes.
