2016 Sinor-LaVallee - Syrah San Luis Obispo County (87 pts) @sinorlavallee · 🙋‍♂️ Syrah is one of the most fickle grapes. Do you agree❓· ℹ️ This 💯 Syrah and 💯 from their estate Bassi Vineyard which is 1.2 miles from the Pacific Ocean in San Luis Obispo County. This vineyard is farmed organically with Biodynamic practices. Hand harvested and 1/2 Indigenous yeast fermentation. Hand punched down 2-3 times a day. Aged in oak barrels with no new oak for 11 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered· 👁 Deep ruby color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of black pepper, inky, gravel, black cherry, boysenberry, earthy, and slight floral notes· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ chalky tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. A good texture to the wine. A medium length finish of wet rock and boysenberry· 🔔 This is a wine that if I were to have a magic formula to score wine based on cost that would be much higher. That's too much math for me 🤷‍♂️, so I just score holistically from 2 buck Chuck to DRC. This is suggested at $30, but wine searcher shows it as low as $24. This price point for this quality of Syrah is almost as hard as Pinot Noir. This has great acid, lovely texture, and holds the 14.8% ABV well. It has a honest straight forward flavor profile and what Syrah should actually taste like. Very well made.
