The theme was 2016 Côte-Rôtie. This is 💯 Syrah from La Landonne vineyard in Côte-Rôtie, this is essentially the top vineyard of the appellation. They own 1.6 ha in La Landonne with vine from 60-100 years old. There was no destemming this vintage, some vintages get 10-20% destemmed. Aged exclusively in Demi-muids with 10% being new oak. Around 600 cases produced each year· 👁 Medium ruby color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of raspberry, strawberry, oak, stemmy, tomato leaf, black pepper, violets, herbal, thyme, and tobacco· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ grippy tannins, medium alcohol, and medium body. A medium+ length finish of ripe red fruit, dried herbs, and black pepper spice· 🔔 This wine was ranked 1 of 8 in this blind flight. If I had to sum this up with one word it would be balance. Great mix of fruit, herbs, floral notes, and spices all mixed together. This wine is 94 points right here right now, but has lots of room to improve. Good acid and tannin structure, which gives it a framework to age while still being finessed and elegant. In my opinion, easily the standout of the tasting. This is the most expensive coming in around $140+, but also has pedigree Terroir and Winemaking. Bravo! 🙌· 😎 In Blind, We Trust
