2013 Henri Prudhon & Fils - Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamay (87 pts) · ℹ️ Tasted double blind this week at a new wine bar in San Francisco @ungrafted _sf A great place to do some blind tasting. I am so happy to have places like this in San Francisco 🌉💪 · 👁 Medium gold color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of oxidation, nutty, honey, copper penny, bruised apple, melon, oak, anise, cream, vanilla, and lees· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. A medium+ length finish of oak spice, nutty, and bruised apple· 🗺📍 Key features - Medium+ acidity, definitely saw oak, intentional oxidation, relatively neutral grape aromas, medium+ ~14% ABV. The wine saw oak and probably a decent amount of new oak. Wine is likely intentionally oxidized. Immediately going to white Rioja, Chardonnay, white Bordeaux, and Rhone style white wines. Discounting White Bordeaux as it doesn't have pyrazines of Sauvignon Blanc and it's acidity is too high for a Semillon dominated wine. It's not high enough alcohol for a southern Rhone CdP style blend. It's really oxidized for it to be Burgundy. Possibly a new world Chardonnay with lees work. The intentional oxidation is really driving me to White Rioja or something like Musar. Trying to taste by deduction, but this really reminds me of R Lopez de Heredia's Gravonia 🙄· 🔔 Not even close 😭. This is very "rustic" wine for Saint Aubin. I tasted this with 4 other tasters, all equally qualified. No one was in Chardonnay. 🤦‍♂️ Most people were in Chenin Blanc. Is this much oxidation normal? Given the amount of Burgundy I have had in the last month, I have to say no ❌. All of that being said, I thought it was enjoyable when it was totally blind· 😎 In blind, we trust.
