2016 Domaine Philippe Bornard - La Chamade Ploussard Arbois Pupillin (88 pts) @saviosoaresselections · 🙋‍♂️Have you tried Poulsard before❓· ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Poulsard, which is locally referred to as Ploussard in the commune of Arbois Pupillin. Poulsard is a thin skinned grape with low amounts of color phenols. The resulting wines are pale at best and could be mistaken for rosé even with multiple weeks of extraction. Also, it is hard to grow due to early bud break it is prone to frost. Finally, it tends to make reductive wines, so it actually benefits from low or no SO2 additions. Domaine Philippe Bornard farms using Biodynamic Viticulture. 50-60 year old vines grown in red loam soils. Handpicked, destemmed, then placed in stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Slow fermentation and pumpovers for about 3 weeks to extract color. Aged in large oak foudré for 9-24 months depending on the vintage· 👁 Pale ruby color, watery rim, and cloudy· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of herbal, rosemary, pine nettle, earthy, sour cherry, cranberry, smoked duck, and green tea· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, medium- chalky Tannins, medium alcohol, and light body. A medium length finish of cherry, green tea, and rosemary· 🔔 Gotta be honest, if you are a wine geek and love natural wines add a few points here. Otherwise I don't think is a crowd pleaser. You need to know what you are getting into when buying this wine. It is light, high acid, and very savory. Definitely a geeky wine that almost had a spritz on the palate. I rarely get green tea on red wines so I found that fascinating. It's definitely a conversation piece. You say Poulsard, I say Ploussard - No, that's not confusing at all 🤪
