2013 Domaine Bruno Clair - Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle (92 pts) @beckywasserman .co @vineyardbrands · 🙋‍♂️ Do you like the darker side of Pinot Noir❓· ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy, France. This Premier Cru vineyard is just below the Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard. There is a lot of clay in the soil. The vines were planted in 1964. Indigenous yeast fermentation. Up to 20% whole cluster. The wine spends 18 months in French oak barrels with up to 50% being new depending on vintage. This was tasted @zachysauctions during the @lapaulee Auction· 👁 Medium- ruby color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of oak, espresso, smoke, ripe pomegranate, black cherry, black currant, and sweet spices· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium spicy tannins, medium alcohol, and medium body. A medium+ length finish of black cherry and smoke· 🔔 This is a very masculine wine. You feel the dark ripe brooding fruit, that needs air to shine through the oak. The fruit concentration is there in spades it just needs to integrate a tad more. I was assuming this had a slightly higher percentage of whole cluster when tasting it. Overall, great weight, zippy acidity, and nice texture on the palate. Definitely on the darker side of Pinot Noir and a lot of people will love this wine, but it needs more time.
