2017 River's Edge - Sauvignon Blanc Vintage Farm Vineyard (88 pts) @riversedgewinery · 🙋‍♂️ Have you tried a wine from Elkton AVA in Oregon❓· ℹ️ River's Edge Winery was founded in 1998. The winery itself was built in 2000, establishing it as the first winery in Elkton. The Elkton AVA was certified in 2013 due to it's unique climate. Close enough to the coast to receive the cool ocean breeze coming up the Umpqua River which drops temperatures considerably every night of the summer. The Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Vintage Farm Vineyards, adjacent to their estate vineyards. Winemaking style is low intervention. Only native yeasts and exclusively barrel aging· 👁 Medium lemon color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe grapefruit, star fruit, Meyer lemon, nectarine, floral, Greek yogurt, grassy, and grapefruit pith· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. A very creamy texture likely due to lees aging. A medium length finish of ripe grapefruit, cut grass, and white pepper· 🔔 I had no idea what to expect, when tasting this Sauvignon Blanc for Elkton AVA. This is really a unique wine. The aromatics are more subdued than most new world Sauvignon Blancs. The palate is loaded with flavor and it's really quite weighty. I was shocked when I saw 14.8% ABV on the label as it held it well. 😲 Most surprisingly of all is that wine is only $18. I will say this wine is quite singular because it doesn't really remind me of the main classic styles: Bordeaux Blanc, Sancerre, or NZ Sauvvy. Quite enjoyable 🙌
