2008 Radikon - Jakot (92 pts) @sasaradikon @louisdressnerselections · 🙋‍♂️ Thoughts on 🚫 no sulphur wines❓· ℹ️ Radikon is one of the famed Producers and Champions of orange wine in the world. This wine is 💯 Friulano from Friuli-Venezia Giulia in Northeast Italy. Up until 2007 the grape was called Tocai Friulano, but was changed due to the confusion with the Hungarian wine region Tokaj. Jakot is Tokaj spelled backwards. The grapes are destemmed and stay in contact with the skins for 3 months. They are then aged for 36 months on their lees in large Slavonian oak barrels. There is no sulphur at any point in the winemaking process· 👁 Cloudy, Deep onion skin color· 👃 Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried apricot, orange peel, kumquat, jasmine tea, anise, nutmeg, bergamot, oregano, and a touch of volatile acidity· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, medium- spicy tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium body. There is a gritty texture A long finish of saison beer with dried fruit and spices· 🔔 If you like orange wine then you need to try these wines, but if not then please stay away. These are an extreme example of orange wine. The best description is that someone made a wine out of dried fruits and spices that they found at a Bazaar in Istanbul. It takes a few sips for you to acclimate to what this wine is dishing out. This is complex, but very divisive.
