1996 Château Lynch-Bages- Pauillac (94 pts) @chateaulynchbages @drinkwildman · 🙋‍♂️ What was the last Bordeaux wine you tasted❓· ℹ️ This wine is from the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, France. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. In general the 1996 was a mixed bag. The left bank, where Pauillac sits, was largely more successful than St Emilion or Pomerol on the right bank· 👁 Deep garnet color with a medium rim· 👃 Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of herbal, menthol, dried blackcurrant, dried plum, dried cherry, blackcurrant leaf, lead pencil, cedar, underbrush, clove, and black tea· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ spicy tannins, medium alcohol, and full body body. A long length finish of dried black fruit, menthol, and black tea· 🔔 This is a classic Bordeaux. 1996 is still a baby and has a long life ahead of it. The 1995 seems like an old school classic style, while the 1996 was a bit brutish in it's youth. The wine is now starting to enter maturity and has a long life ahead of it. The main difference in these vintages is the overall concentration of aromas and flavors. Please see the previous post for notes on the 1995 vintage. 🍷🤔
