This wine is labeled at Vinho Regional Beiras which was broken up into 3 separate regions in 2009. This wine if it was made today would be labeled as Bairrada. This actually a single vineyard, planted in 1950 on clay and limestone soils at 50-100m. Made using open top fermenters with extended skin maceration. Aged for 24 months in concrete before being filtered and bottled· 👁 Deep amber color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of nuts, hazelnut, subtle Carmel, lemon curd, chamomile, lemon peel, dried apricot, dried mango, lees, greek yogurt, and fino sherry· 👄 The wine is dry, searingly high acidity, medium- alcohol, and medium body. A medium length finish of lemon pith and dried flowers· 🔔 This wine has a lovely nose that is really complex and developed. However, on the palate the high acidity that Arinto is famous for seems to taken over the wine, but then it still has a decent finish. This to me was still a very good wine, my caveat is that I like high acid white wines and aged white wines. Most interesting is that this was tasted side by side with the 1995 of the same wine and they were showing quite differently. Those notes are coming soon.
