Catching up on this series due to holiday traveling· ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Cabernet Franc from Chinon in the Loire Valley of France. Vines are 30-35 years old. 80% planted on sand over limestone and 20% on gravel. Hand harvested. Fermented in cement vats, then aged 15 months in a combination unlined cement vats and large oak vats. Unfiltered· 👁 Deep ruby color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. A bit of barnyard funk at first but blows off. Aromas of green beans, tomato leaf, earthy, charred tomato, raspberry, boysenberry, and celery· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, medium sandy tannins, medium alcohol, and medium body. A medium length finish that is very savory like drinking a can of V8 or a bloody mary· 🔔 There is a lot of flavor here and if you like your veggies then this is an interesting wine to try. The greenness from the pyrazines are more forward than the red fruit flavors, but they are not over the top. This is a entry point to explore Chinon at $23. It highlights what this grape variety should taste like in a cooler climate. That being said they do make a number of cuvées that are a bit more special in my opinion and worth the higher price tag.
