2007 Château Moulin Saint-Georges - St. Émilion Grand Cru (88 pts)· 🙋‍♂️ Do you think of value wines when you think of Bordeaux❓· ℹ️ This wine was tasted at a single blind tasting of 2007 Bordeaux. Château Moulin Saint-Georges is a right bank Bordeaux from St. Émilion and is owned by the Vauthier family that also own Château Ausone. In fact the Moulin Saint-Georges sits just below Ausone. In fact they share a winemaking team. Soils are clay and limestone. Vines are an average of 25 years old. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels with 85% being new. Most surprising is the boutique production quantity of 3,000 cases a year· 👁 Medium ruby color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of green olive, olive brine, oak, cedar, red cherry, raspberry, and cardamom· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium- round tannins, medium alcohol, and medium body. Medium length finish of ripe red cherry and olive tepanade· 🔔 This was 5 of 8 for me in this tasting. The group ranked this as their number 1 wine, clearly they have no idea what they are talking about 🧐. All joking aside, at $35 this is a huge value regardless of how I scored it. Overall this is the more elegant side of Bordeaux with interesting aromatics, finesse, and freshness to it· 😎 My blind call was Pomerol with a majority of Merlot. This wine had medium weight and a solid ripe red fruit profile. I thought this could be more a less expensive wine due to the less prolific oak usage and lacking some concentration. It didn't have black fruit or tannin structure for Cabernet Sauvignon. I landed on Pomerol as I thought it mostly Merlot, but honestly this could have just been a reflection of vintage. This confused me a bit 🤷‍♂️, not a style of Bordeaux I taste often· In Blind, We Trust 😎
