2007 Château Canon - St. Émilion Grand Cru (87 pts) @chateaucanonofficial · 🙋‍♂️ Are you a right bank or left bank person❓· ℹ️ This wine was tasted at a single blind tasting of 2007 Bordeaux. 2 mystery wines were added to keep us honest. The goal of the tasting was to explore a range of wines from a lackluster vintage plagued by the "curse of the 7s". Château Canon is a right bank Bordeaux from St. Émilion. The blend is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months in French oak with 70% new· 👁 Medium+ ruby color· 👃 Medium- intensity on the nose. Aromas of red brick, instant oatmeal, ripe red cherry, red plum, oak, cured meat, roasted red pepper, VA, slight new paint, and violets· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ ripe tannins, medium alcohol, and medium+ body. Medium+ length finish of ripe red plum and saltiness· 🔔 This was 6 of 8 for me in this tasting. The group agreed which almost unheard of in this group. My blind call was St Émilion with a high percentage of Merlot possibly even Pomerol. This wine was fine, I didn't mind the VA. Oak was well integrated, showed a decent acidity, good weight, but the finish was the highlight. Overall what I would expect from a lackluster vintage· 😎 This wine had weight and a solid ripe red fruit profile. I was squarely in the right bank as this screamed Merlot. It simply missed that black fruit and more prolific structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. I landed on St. Émilion, due to the lifted acid that you don't see in almost pure Merlots of Pomerol. Was assuming this was coming from a good dose of Cabernet Franc· In Blind, We Trust 😎
