2012 Failla - Peay Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (91 pts) @faillawines @peay _vineyards · 🙋‍♂️ What flavors comes to mind for Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir❓· ℹ️ Tasted double blind, it was opened the day prior. This fruit comes from the Peay Vineyard, located 4 miles east of the Pacific ocean in the northwestern corner of Sonoma county, it was first planted in 1998. Failla began contracting with Peay Vineyards in 2006. Peay sells grapes to Failla from two blocks of their 51 acre property from which they craft a vineyard designate wine, making Failla one of only two wineries to receive their cold climate fruit· 👁 Medium ruby color· 👃 Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of flowers, rose, ripe raspberry, dried cranberry, red jolly rancher, red plum, tree bark, cola, licorice, and stemmy· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium fine tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium body. Medium+ length finish of rose and cranberry· 🔔 This wine is in the perfect drinking window and showing quite well. It was It should stay at this level for quite a few years. Overall very well made 👏· 😎 I will start off with my guess, I thought it was a 2010 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. It clearly had a 6-8 years of age based on color and starting to show some dried fruit aromas. It was ripe red fruit and not overtly mineral. This took me away from Burgundy and Germany. On New Zealand I tend to notice more whole cluster. Alcohol was restrained so discounted Napa. It was pretty dark and then there was the cola aroma. Those notes often make me think of Oregon Pinot Noir. Why Willamette Valley? 1 part playing the odds, 1 part don't know enough to deduce further· In Blind, We Trust😎
