11/12/2021, 9:03:03 AM 2015 Casa Lapostolle - Le Petit Clos de Clos Apalta (92 pts) @closapalta @thewinebowgroup · 🙋♂️ Have you had a Chilean wine lately❓· ℹ️ This wine is from Apalta, which is the hotbed of winemaking in Chile's Colchagua Valley. This wine is a different expression of the same single vineyard Condor de Apalta than it's more famous wine simply named Clos Apalta. The vineyard has granitic and clay soils with a North to South exposure. Vines were planted in 1920 with an average age of 90 years. The blend is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carménère, 28% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. Fermented with native yeasts. The wine is aged new French oak for 8 months. Unfined and unfiltered· 👁 Medium+ ruby color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of oak, cedar, ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, menthol, smoked meat, lead pencil, and a distinct black pepper note· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium fine tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. Medium+ length finish of ripe black fruit and black pepper spice· 🔔 This wine may be in Clos Apalta's shadow, but this wine always shows so well for a 1/3 of the price. Sure there is oak, but fruit is starting to merge with it already. The acidity and refined tannins really make this wine. Very balanced overall.
