2015 Château Tour Saint Christophe - St. Émilion Grand Cru (91 pts) · 🙋‍♂️ Did you have an advent calendar as a kid❓· ℹ️ This year I am curating a wine advent calendar. Each day we taste 1 or 2 wines (making up for weekends 😉). My goal was to Target an average price of $30 per bottle with the hypothesis being that quality wine can be had from $20-$40· 🗓0️⃣1️⃣ Wine Advent Calendar· This wine was chosen to highlight the Right Bank of Bordeaux. It is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Hong Kong billionaire Peter Kwok purchased this winery in 2012 and has made a significant investment into this Château. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months with 40% being new. I specifically chose this wine to be paired up against a California Cabernet Sauvignon so that they can see the differences in grape varieties and Ripeness levels of the fruit· 👁 Deep ruby color with a pale rim· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of sweet oak, clove, vanilla, red plum, bramble, black cherry, brown sugar, and green olive· 👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, medium+ ripe tannins, high alcohol, and full body. Medium+ length finish of red plum and cedar· 🔔 This wine is $35 and it really delivers. Lots of fruit concentration, good oak usage, and very well structured. This will continue to improve, but shows the value of Bordeaux.
