The Montestefano vineyard is in the Eastern part of the village of Barbaresco. The elevation is 230-280 m and has a Southern exposure. The soils have a higher concentration of calcium content than most of the other vineyards in Barbaresco. The wines of Montestefano are often riper due to the Southern exposure, resulting in fuller body and more massive tannins. This wine is often considered to be the most Barolo-esque of the Produttori wines. First produced as a single vineyard in 1974· 👁 Medium ruby color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of tar, earth, tree bark, ink, black plum, black cherry, and tobacco· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, high coarse chewy tannins, high alcohol, and medium+ body. Medium length tobacco and tar finish· 🔔 One of the Riservas I personally collect. This was the darkest of the Riservas and honestly needs a lot more time. I still think this will improve with an additional 5-7 years of aging. Was not surprised when this was revealed as Montestefano. Personally rated it 8 of 9, but group rated it 3 of 9.
