2006 R. López de Heredia - Viña Tondonia Reserva (91 pts) @lopezdeherediaoficial @thinkglobalwines · 🙋‍♂️ What is your favorite Spanish wine❓· ℹ️ This wine is from Rioja, Spain. It is 70% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano, and 10% Mazuelo (aka Carignan) all from the vineyard of Tondonia. This is fermented in barrel. Aged 6 years in barrel, then it aged in bottle at the winery until seemed ready for release. This wine is unfiltered. This wine was tasted at the Wine & Spirits Top 100 tasting @wineandspirits · 👁 Medium ruby color with a pale garnet rim· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried cherry, red plum, bramble, cedar, clove, meaty, bloody beef, Worcestershire sauce, and a touch of brett· 👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, medium spicy tannins, medium alcohol, and medium+ body. Tannins are quite rounded that can only come from so much oak aging making the texture very smooth. A medium+ length finish that is salty and beefy· 🔔 The 2006 is just being released. This is on par with 2005, with 2006 being a bit more classic. The 2004 is still preferred recent vintage. Honestly you cannot go wrong with any of these. They are savory and meaty in all the right ways. Once again I commend keeping with tradition to release these when they think they are in the right drinking window. This will still age well.
