1997 Pahlmeyer - Proprietary Red (93 pts) #winereview - Noticeable pale ruby rim is starting to show. Medium intensity nose with ripe black fruit, blackberry and blueberry, being most prevelant. Oak notes of vanilla, charred wood and cedar as well. Earthy and espresso buried under all of the fruit and oak. Overall a lot of complexity on the nose. Medium- acid, high alcohol that is a bit distracting on the palate, medium+ ripe tannins, and a medium body. A lot of blackberry and blueberry on the initial attack which transitions to spice (cloves?), espresso, and cedar. The texture is extremely chalky and covers your tongue. The acidity is lower than I would like, but it was a hot year. While the alcohol is slightly off putting, the fruit really holds up to the tannins and structure of the wine. The oak while very prevalent is not overdone. The finish is long and enjoyable. #wineterroir #winegeek #winelover #california #napavalley #pahlmeyer #bordeauxblend
