1989 Dominus Estate - Napa Valley (94 pts) @dominusestatewinery @dominusestate e · ℹ️ This wine is a Bordeaux Blend from Napa Valley, California. The grapes come exclusively from the estate Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, California. The wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with the addition of Merlot. Cabernet Franc didn't improve the blend, so it was excluded, while Petit Verdot was included for the first time. The wine spent around 2 years in French oak barrels with 30% being new. It was then bottle aged for another 2 years before being released in 1993· 👁 Deep ruby color with a pale garnet rim· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried black cherry, dried blackberry, boysenberry, lead pencil, tomato leaf, oregano, menthol, tobacco, cedar, and baking spices· 👄 The wine is dry, medum+ acidity, medium fine-grained tannins, medium alcohol (13%), and medium+ body. The long finish of dried black fruit, cigar box, and spices, followed by cooling menthol· 🔔 This wine is at its prime right now. This bottle is absolutely singing 🎶. No need to decant this bottle, it opened up beautifully in the Zieher Glass. This wine has an amazingly complex nose that kept evolving with every swirl. The black fruit aromas took a back seat to the dried herbs and integrated oak notes. This wine didn't get big scores in 1993 right when most people were tasting 1991 Napa Cabs. This wine is impeccably balanced at 13% ABV, while at the same time being concentrated on the palate yet airy on the nose. Fabulous! 👏
