Pierre Ferrand Pineau des Charentes Blanc, NV - Cognac, France🇫🇷 Tasted: 4/2-2020 🍇100% Ugni Blanc (as cognac and musts) History says, that Pineau emerged by an accident during harvest in 1589, when a Cognac producer poured juice from freshly harvested grapes in an empty barrel. They thought. “Unfortunately”, there was still a bit of Cognac left in the bottom. That let to the lovely sweet dessert wine of Pineau des Charentes (refered to the place of origin). This one is 20% Cognac and 80% grape juice. 12 months maturation. 17% alc. Vanilla poached pears, karamel and baklava. Most of the oak appear with the aroma with light fresh leather and pearcrumble. It’s super rich and soft (a little sirup like) but with a very delicate acidity to it. This is the first Pineau, I’ve had. For sure not the last. It’s also in general an extremely well valued dessert wine..
