MV Krug - Grande Cuvée 167 Ème Édition Brut (93 pts) @krugchampagne @krugoli · 🧠 Same Same, but Different· ℹ️ This is a multi-vintage blend of Champagne, with the core built around the 2011 vintage. The wine is 47% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay, and 17% Meunier. 191 different wines from 13 different vintages were used to assemble this edition of the Grande Cuvée. The youngest vintage used is 2011 and the oldest is 1995. 42% of the blend comes from reserve wines. The wines are fermented in oak, but matured in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spends at least 7 years on lees before release· 👁 Pale gold color· 👃 Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of toast, brioche, marzipan, walnuts, smoke, yellow apple, nectarine, dried apricot, baked quince, and salted butter· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (12%), and medium+ body. A long length finish of yellow apples, butter, and nuts· 🔔 This wine has a very expressive nose that jumps out of the glass. The palate is significantly weightier than the 166th edition. Good texture more like marzipan than chalk, that coats the entire palate. Overall, the wine is still tight and needs more bottle age to unfurl. If I had to choose between the 166th and 167th, I would give the nod to the 166th edition. That is just splitting hairs though. Krug is Krug, and while these are both Grande Cuvées, they are uniquely singular wines.
