11/17/2021, 9:43:02 AM 2016 d'Arenberg - The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon (92 pts) @darenbergwine @obcwines · 🙋♂️ Have you tried wine from d'Arenberg before❓· ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Cabernet Sauvignon from the McLaren Vale, Australia. Coppermine Road runs parallel to the best Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard of the winery and how this wine gots its name. Fermentation occurs in open-top fermenters with small batches of grapes. After being basket pressed the wine is then aged for in a combination new and used French oak barrels for 18 months. The wine is aged on lees without racking until the final blend is created. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered· 👁 Deep purple color· 👃 Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe blackberry, black currant, Thai basil, peppermint, lead pencil, oak, sawdust, clove, and cured meat· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, high drying tannins, high alcohol (14.5%) and full body. A medium+ length finish of brooding black fruit, oak spice, and Thai basil· 🔔 Let me start by saying that this is a beast of a wine 👹🍷. It is dark, brooding, and tightly wound. There is a healthy dollop of oak as well. Underneath that beastly exterior, there is something compelling. Absolutely loved the Thai basil note on this wine, something I haven't encountered often. This has a ton of structure and is built to be cellared, but I know a ton of people that want to be dominated by a bottle of wine and will gravitate towards it.
