How was the wine you ask❓It was quite youthful and vibrant for a bottle 50 years young· 📍 Notice the location is Vougeot Premier Cru and not Clos Vougeot Grand Cru. You don't see this very often, in fact this may be the first time that I have seen it labeled this way. The grapes could be declassified Clos Vougeot grapes or some blend of the 4 Premier Cru sites. Vougeot's Premier Cru vineyards are grouped together adjacent to the straight northern wall of the Clos de Vougeot. This level of wine is very small when compared with other villages as it is dominated by the largest Grand Cru site in Burgundy· 🤓 Well how did this wine taste so youthful? Remoissenet was sold in 2005 and with it's holdings came a giant underground cellar with a huge library of wine dating back to the 50s. These wines were stored in perfect conditions and left untouched for decades. Provenance is extremely high. Clearly this is a new label and probably a new cork. These wines may have been reconditioned (aka topped up) with the same wine from a different bottle or even slightly different vintage, but that is speculation· 🔔 The wines are slowly being released on to the market. This represents a rare opportunity to taste interesting older vintages. This bottle still had life left and showed flavors of dried red currant, dried cranberry, subtle spice, and an earthiness.
