2006 Pascal Doquet - Le Mont Aimé Premier Cru Coeur de Terroir Brut (91 pts) @schatziwines · 🙋🏼‍♂️ Thoughts on single vineyard Champagnes❓· ℹ️ Pascal Doquet is a Grower Champagne (Récolant Manipulant) house. This wine is 💯 Chardonnay from a Premier Cru single vineyard "Mont Aimé" in the Côte de Blancs of the Champagne region. Mont Aimé, one of his coolest sites that Doquet farms, faces south and, therefore, takes longer to ripen. The vineyard is certified organic. This wine was partially fermented in neutral barrel (40%) and enamel (60%). The wine sees 10 years of lees aging. Dosage of 4.5 g/l· 👁 Medium lemon color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of acacia, orange blossom, yellow apple, lemon peel, lemon curd, butter, and cheese rind· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), and medium body. A medium+ length finish of acacia and lemon peel· 🔔 A bottle of very floral champagne. This wine seems so young, given that it is a 2006. Referencing the back label, this is clearly due to the prolonged lees aging that has preserves freshness. It does show a bit more roundness than other vintages, possibly due to neutral barrels or just the ripeness of the vintage. All in all, Pascal Doquet wines always show something compelling. Another excellent example of Grower Champagne 👨‍🌾🍾.
