2017 Domaine Arnaud Lambert - Saint Cyr en Bourg Saumur Blanc (87 pts) @domainearnaudlambert @thesourceimports · ℹ️ This wine was tasted double blind. The wine is 💯 Chenin Blanc from the Saumur appellation in the Loire Valley of France. Prior to the 2017 vintage these wines were bottled under Domaine de Saint Just. The vineyards are planted on sandstone, clay and limestone soils on the once famous white wine hill called, Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg. The limestone bedrock not too deep below the clay and sand help to create tension-filled expressions of Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc· 👁 Pale lemon color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of lemon peel, lees, yogurt, licorice, floral, acacia, quince, peach skin, and nectarine· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (12.8%), and medium body. A medium- length finish of lemon peel, lees aging, and a slight bitterness· 🧠 The wine is young, probably no oak aging based on color. No noticeable oak on the nose. Slightly terpenic notes of peach and nectarine. Medium+ almost high acidity. Moderate alcohol and cooler climate citrus fruit notes. Noticeable lees aging. Has an old world sensibility. Leaning towards Gruner Veltliner or Pinot Grigio. A lateral could be Muscadet or Chablis. The phenolic bitterness on the finish is driving me to Gruner or Pinot Grigio. Final guess 2016 Austrian Wachau Gruner Veltliner Federspiel· Russian River Valley Pinot Noir· 🔔 Missed the mark here completely, I didn't even have Chenin Blanc in my laterals. 🤷‍♂️ It didn't have the weight that I find from many Producers in Saumur and it was missing a touch of residual sugar that many Vouvray Sec wines show. Need to explore Saumur Blanc a bit more to get a baseline. I have liked many of the Chateau de Brézé wines that he has made in the past· 😎 In Blind We Trust
