Another gem from pioneering “natural wine-whisperer” and all around rock star of Umbria, Danilo Marcucci. Danilo has revived 12 hectares of native vines on his wife’s estate that were planted in the 1970’s. He farms using low intervention, organic methods, with “no yeast, no chemical corrections, no sulfur. No technology”. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, with 4 days skin contact, aged in fiberglass. No added sulfur, unfined and infiltered. The wine is named ‘Ciliegió’ after a horse on the farm. Ruby red in colour, with aromas of tart red fruits, carnation, herbs and earth. Green tea tannins and fresh acidity frame red currant, morello cherry, pomegranate, white pepper and crushed rock minerality. Red fruit, earth and a streak of saline minerality linger on the tangy finish.
