2016 Château day Tertre - Margaux @chateaudutertre · ℹ️ This wine is from the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, France. Château du Tertre is classified as a Fifth Growth. The grape varieties planted are 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. The old vines were planted in 1961 and 1965. The soils are gravel with small hills. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, with 45% new oak, and 55% being one-year-old barrels for 15-17 months· 👁 Medium+ ruby color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of blackcurrant, black plum, raspberry, gravel, cedar, tobacco, clove, and tomato leaf· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium ripe tannins, medium+ alcohol (13%), and medium body. Medium length finish of black fruit, cedar, and gravel· 🔔 The nose is quite charming, showing a wide range of flavors with a standout gravel note that is quite distinct. However, the palate is very lean. It seems to be lacking some of the concentration that I come to expect from a classified growth. This wine was tasted frequently over many hours in a decanter. Some would say this wine is too young to drink now. I would argue that this will likely evolve, but not necessarily improve with additional cellaring· 💰 ~$50· #vin #lovewine #🍷 #wineterroir #wine
